London celebrates 100 years of Olympic Association

A reception was held yesterday at the House of Commons to celebrate the centenary of the British Olympic Association. Attending were six of the IOC committee, including President Jacques Rogge.

Whilst Tony Blair was careful not to mention the London 2012 bid, so as to comply with the IOC bidding rules, the impression he left was that the UK Government is firmly behind the bid.

To avoid any claims of foul play, there was no official representation from the London Bid Committee, however a number of former Olympians attended, including Sebastian Coe, a double Olympic 1500 meters gold medal holder.

Later, at a ceremony unveiling a memorial honouring the medallists of the 1908 London games, Jacques Rogge commented that the race was very close. “I do not expect many votes difference between one and two”, he said.
